In and around the Zuidlaardermeer
It doesn't get more beautiful than this!
The Zuidlaardermeer lies as a pearl between the province of Groningen and Drenthe. Birdwatchers, (forest) hikers, cyclists, nature lovers, beach and sun lovers, swimmers and bon vivants; everyone can find everything here and more!
The photos on this page were taken by Henk Blaak. And thanks to him we can take you along and tell you about the special unique places of the Zuidlaardermeer, the Tusschenwater (new nature reserve adjacent to the Zuidlaardermeer area) and also 't Roegwold.

On and around Zuidlaardermeer you will find very rare and special birds that also have their nesting grounds there.
Bearded reedling - Bluethroat - Marsh harrier - Little grebe - Little grebe - Great goosander - Black-tailed godwit - Eurasian bird - Rufous grouse - Little ringed grouse - Little moorhen - Cuckoo - Cattle egret - Squacco - Quail - Spoonbill - Little Nuthatch - Partridge - Spotted Crake - Spotted Crake - Long-eared owl - Caspian tern - Reed warbler - Bittern - Little grebe - Short-eared owl - Osprey - White-cheeked tern - White-tailed eagle - White-tailed eagle - Little egret - Black tern
Not to mention all the other wonderful animals that live there such as the Beaver, Otter, Fox, Ermine the Scottish Highlanders and the Badger.
And in the Noorlaarder forest (10 km from our cottage) you can find the Black Woodpecker, Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker and the Tawny Owl. So bring binoculars!
